No. 20 Saints Beat the Eagles to be the Only Undefeated Team to Survive the Weekend

KIRKLAND, Wash. – On the first day of the Eagle Classic tournament all four teams came into the weekend undefeated. No. 20 Carroll College (6-0, overall) went on 11-0 run to pull away from the Eagles in the last three minutes of the game to be the only remaining undefeated team.
 
On the first game of the night, Corban (6-1, overall) defeated University of Providence (4-1, overall) 96-87. Beau Roggenbach led the Warrior again with a double-double, 22 points and 13 rebounds. The first half ended with Corban having a narrow margin of 2 points leading 41-39. The Warriors made adjustments during the half time quickly extended their lead by 19 points with eight minutes left in the game. With help from Austin Starr the Providence Argos fought their way back within four points and just one minute and forty seconds on the clock. After fouls and free throws. The Warriors walked away with a 96-87 victory.
 
In the second game of the night, the Eagles were looking to bounce back after a slow start the night before. Northwest University (5-2, overall) played with a high level of energy starting when Arturo Palacios drained a three pointer to start the game. Playing a very talented Carroll College, Northwest University found themselves trailing four points at half down 34-30. Northwest University was optimistic when they took the lead 59-58 with three minutes and twenty-seven seconds left in the game. Then Carroll College, led by Matt Wyman locked it down and scored the next eleven points. Wyman had twenty points and four rebounds on the night. Hussayn Ford had 19 points for the Eagles, and Josh Meyer was right behind him with 17 points and 6 rebounds. The biggest difference in the game came with Carroll College scoring 18 points off of turnovers compared to Northwest University’s 2 points.
 
Northwest University men’s basketball head coach Jeff Drinkwine remarked, “That was one of the best efforts we have had thus far in the early season. We need to learn how to sustain that effort for all forty minutes. I was pleased with the overall intensity of our guys.”
