Caballa 3rd, Randall 4th to Lead EOU at Mike Clock Open 11/11/2018 7:18:56 PM FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Led by third and fourth place finishes for seniors Mhar Caballa and Drake Randall, the Eastern Oregon men’s wrestling team wrapped up a successful weekend at the Mike Clock Open, hosted by Pacific University on Sunday. Caballa led the way with a 4-1 record at the tournament in the 125-pound weight class. The senior won his first two matches to advance to the semifinals, before dropping his only bout of the day. He rebounded with two more wins, capped off by a 5-2 victory over Oregon State’s Brandon Kaylor in the third place match. Caballa won by technical fall 18-3 in his opening round match over Washington State’s Michael Villela. He followed up with a close 6-4 win against Joel Avila of Southwest Oregon Community College. After his semifinal loss, Caballa SWOCC’s Aaron Runion by a 14-4 major decision. Randall wrestled to the six-match limit on the day, finishing 5-1 officially. The senior advanced all the way to the consolation finals, but was unable to wrestle due to the rule and placed fourth by virtue of being a lower seed. Randall reached the quarterfinals of the championship bracket after earning a 9-2 win over OSU’s Colton Beisley and Clackamas Community College’s Israel Casarez. He dropped a close 8-6 decision to Sean Harman in the quarterfinals. Randall then won his final three official matches, defeating Clackamas CC’s Colby Winnett by fall (1:40), Beisley once again by a 5-2 decision and Cody Osborn by an 11-2 major decision. The Mounties also had good days by junior Tyler Miler, and freshmen Keegan Mulhill and Ryan Ninman. Miler and Mulhill each earned three wins while Ninman won two matches. Miler went 3-2 overall at 141 pounds, winning his first two bouts to advance to the quarterfinals. The junior defeated Umpqua CC’s Sawyer Myres by an 18-3 technical fall and Clackamas CC’s Ricardo Solorio by fall (1:06). After a loss, Miler won his next match over SWOCC’s Brandon Gibson by a 14-5 major decision. Mulhill wrestled at 157 pounds and finished his day with a 3-2 record. The true freshman dropped his first match, but then rattled off three-straight victories. He defeated Warner Pacific’s Chas Peterson by a 16-1 technical fall, SWOCC’s Chandler Villareal by an 8-2 decision and Grays Harbor’s Kimani Samuel Johnson by fall (2:59). Ninman received a first-round bye at 125 pounds, then defeated two of his next three opponents. The redshirt freshman defeated Umpqua’s Richard Rolfe by fall (1:56) to open his afternoon. After a loss, he followed up with a 14-6 major decision over Collin Anderson of Embry-Riddle. Also earning wins for the Mountaineers was sophomore Jared Brant at 149 pounds and freshman Justin Wilson at 285 pounds. The Blue and Gold are back home this Friday, hosting Umpqua Community College at 5 p.m. and Southern Oregon at 7 p.m. at Quinn Coliseum for a pair of duals.
