2018 Women's Volleyball National Championship Opening Round Preview
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - (Broadcast Links – Live Stats – Schedule) Twenty-four teams will participate in the NAIA Women’s Volleyball National Championship Opening Round on Saturday. Matches will occur at 12 campus locations and the winners will advance to the final site on November 27 – December 1, in Sioux City, Iowa, along with the 20 teams who received an opening round bye. All national championship opening matches will be video streamed.
The 32-team national championship final site pool play match-ups will be announced on Sunday on NAIA.org.
The NAIA Network – the association’s official video-streaming home – will broadcast all final site matches live (the semifinals and finals will also be broadcast via ESPN3) in Sioux City, Iowa. The video platform, powered by Stretch Internet, allows users access to live video, statistics, and social interaction on a number of devices, including mobile. Single-day passes can be purchased for $9.95, while an all-tournament package is available at $29.95.
2018 NAIA Women’s Volleyball National Championship Opening Round Notes
- The 12 national Championship Opening Round hosts are: IU Kokomo (Ind.), Ottawa (Kan.), Central Methodist (Mo.), Corban (Ore.), McPherson (Kan.), Jamestown (N.D.), Marian (Ind.), Trinity Christian (Ill.), Aquinas (Mich.), Reinhardt (Ga.), Cornerstone (Mich.) and Oklahoma City
- Central Methodist, McPherson, Aquinas, Cornerstone, IU Kokomo, Oklahoma City and Reinhardt make their first appearance in the national championship field.
- The women’s volleyball national championship opening round was implemented in 2008.
- Aquinas, Brescia (Ky.), Central Methodist, Faulkner (Ala.), IU Northwest (Ind.), McPherson (Kan.) and Saint Francis (Ind.) are appearing in national championship field for the first time.
- Bellevue (Neb.), Coastal Georgia, Corban, Cornerstone, Embry-Riddle (Ariz.), Haskell (Kan.), IU Kokomo, Jamestown, Marian, Oklahoma City, Ottawa (Kan.), Reinhardt, St. Xavier (Ill.), Texas Wesleyan, Trinity Christian, Wiley (Texas) and Xavier (La.) have all competed in an opening round game before.
- Bellevue and Xavier are in their eighth year of competing in the opening rounds; the most opening round appearances of the 2018 group.
- Bellevue has the most opening round wins in the current field with an overall record of 5-2.
- Trinity Christian and Bellevue will match-up for the second time in the opening round. The teams competed against each other in the 2013 opening rounds. After an exciting five-set match, Trinity Christian was the one that advanced.
- Coastal Georgia, Embry-Riddle and Bellevue will be the visiting school for the first time in their combined 10-year history competing in the opening rounds.
