EUGENE, Ore. – A scoring record which had survived for 27 years was demolished on Friday night as the Beacons claimed a 141-70 victory over Northwest Indian College.
The previous record had stood since a 134-132 triple-overtime victory against Warner Pacific on January 24, 1991. In addition, Friday’s game broke the single-half scoring record not once but twice, ending the night with 73 points after the intermission. A record was also broken for most assists as NCU posted 37 dimes on 55 made buckets. NCU was just one make short of tying the records for both field goals and three-point field goals in a game.
The Beacons (4-2) spread the wealth with seven players in double-figures and no players seeing the floor for more than 19 minutes. Top-scoring honors went to three players as Ernest Ugoagu, Tyrus Hosley, and Austin Tyner each finished the night with 17 points. Reece Robinson added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double.
Among the multitude of strong performances on the bench, none stood out as strongly as Jacob Plunkett (pictured), scoring 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting with six rebounds and two assists. Zach Sly hit a pair of three pointers in each half to score 12 points and Dyshawn Hobson scored six points and had five assists. Shawn Carson added seven points and four steals in just nine minutes of work.
Head Coach Eddie Alexander said, “It was good to see everyone come together as a team tonight and work hard. Sometimes it is difficult to keep the intensity when you build a lead, but for the most part our guys did well tonight.”
The story of the night for Northwest Indian (0-4) was the play of Samuel Marqueda who led all players with 41 points. Gavin Carlos added 17 points as the pair combined to hit seven three-pointers.
The Beacons will be back in action on Monday night as they travel to Lacey, Washington for an exhibition game against Saint Martin’s University at 6:00 pm.
