Kirkland, Wash. – Northwest University (7-2) beat Cal Maritime University (4-5) at home on Saturday by a score of 91-76.
The Eagles struggled with their shooting to start the game, missing their first seven three-point attempts. A three-pointer by Nick Navarro with 10:21 left in the first half tied the game 12-12. The rest of the half stayed close until five straight points from Alex Smith put the Eagles ahead 34-30 going into halftime.
A three-pointer from Ryan Ricks and a layup from Josh Meyer started the second half for the Eagles and put them ahead 39-30. The Eagles never trailed after that, using a 57 point second half to take the win.
Josh Meyer was the clear offensive standout for the Eagles, with 30 points, four assists, and 11 rebounds. Hussayn Ford, despite early foul trouble, earned a double-double as well, with 11 points and 10 rebounds on 5-6 shooting.
Northwest head coach Jeff Drinkwine remarked, “We showed growth in the way we were able to finish the game. This was a point of emphasis I put on the team. It was nice to see every athlete able to contribute to the success of the program.”
