KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – After a fierce battle, Oregon Tech (5-3) was defeated 90-80 by No. 25 Antelope Valley (5-1) in game seven of the Lithia Classic at Danny Miles Court Saturday night.
"I am very proud of our team and their performance tonight," said Head Coach
Scott Meredith. "We went toe to toe with Antelope Valley and our girls played their hearts out. They executed the game plan perfectly in the first half, controlling tempo and turning them into a half-court offensive team. However, there were a couple stretches in the 2nd half where we couldn't get a defensive stop and UAV showed what a dynamic offensive team they are. Nonetheless, the Lady Owls are coming together and I'm pleased with the effort this weekend."
After starting the first quarter on two points from a technical foul and a three-pointer from sophomore Abby Kreiser, Antelope Valley took the lead with a 13-1 run, ending the first quarter 18-13.
Tech would not go down without a fight, however, retaking the lead in the second quarter with a 13-2 run and holding it through the end of the third stanza.
The Owls ended up holding the lead for 26 minutes compared to 13 for Antelope Valley, with the Pioneers coming back in the fourth quarter with a 15-2 run to pull away with the 90-80 win.
Freshman Courtney Clemmer brought in 16 points throughout the third and fourth quarters, giving her a game high 21 points. Kreiser continued to score as well, earning 17 points for the Owls, and Seniors Megan Morris and Mikaela Shumaker took in 10 apiece, with Shumaker contributing 7 rebounds as well.
For Antelope Valley, Asia Young and Tylen Price each contributed 18 points, with Samantha Earl taking 17 towards their victory.
Tech led in rebounds, taking 48 to Antelope Valley's 36 but the big difference in the game was turnovers as OIT had 21 to Antelope's 8.
Antelope Valley took 42 points from their bench to Tech's 33.
The Lady Owls will play Lewis-Clark State College next Saturday at 1:00 pm in Ashland, Oregon as part of the SOU tournament.
