COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho – The No. 4 Argo men's wrestling team competed in the North Idaho College Duals on Saturday, picking up wins over Simon Fraser, 28-9, and Umpqua Community College, 42-9.
Against Simon Fraser, the Argos powered their way to a 28-9 victory over an NCAA Division II program.
No. 14 Michael Lefuel started things off with a pin at the 6:25 minute mark to put the Argos up by six. Eli Walston and TJ Baun followed with two decisions, winning 9-7 and 9-3, respectively. The Argos pushed their lead to 18 as Travis Vermulm won by forfeit at 149 pounds, 18-0.
The Clan picked up three decisions at 157, 165, and 174 pounds to cut the deficit in half as Tony Bergerson, Justin Gibson and Alex Quick fell 7-1, 7-4, and 13-9, respectively, 18-9.
Tyler Webley earned a victory in the 184-pound weight class as he picked up a 9-2 decision.At 197 pounds, John Hensley dominated to 13-4 major decision to push the Argos lead to 16, 25-9. Mathew Hopkins closed things out for the Argos as he tallied a 4-1 decision to give the Argos a 19-point victory.
Against the Riverhawks, the Argos dominated the Riverhawks to claim a 42-9 win.
Umpqua Community College opened the match with an early advantage as Lefuel fell in a hard-fought 11-10 decision.
The Argos quickly changed the tide of the match as Walston earned a pin after four minutes to put the Argos on top, 6-3.
At 141 pounds, Baun picked up a victory by forfeit to give the Argos a 12-3 lead. Isiah Yates followed it up with a 5-4 decision to give the Argos a double-digit lead in the match, 15-3. Komac wasted no time at 157 pounds as he pinned his opponent with no time expiring, 0:00.
The Riverhawks tallied their second bout victory of the evening when Beckler fell after 3:36 due to injury, 21-9.
At 174 pounds, Alex Quick bounced back from his earlier loss to earn a 19-6 major decision over the Riverhawks, 25-9. Webley earned a pin at the 1:03-minute mark to give the Argos a 22-point lead, 31-9. John Hensley claimed a technical fall as he dominated to a 22-7 victory five minutes into the bout. Hopkins closed things out with a pin of his own after 1:48 to close out the Argos 30-point victory, 42-9.
