Evergreen Overcome by Hot Shooting Pacific Lutheran
PARKLAND – Evergreen shot 47 percent from the field and won the rebound battle but couldn't stop the hot long-range shooting of the host Pacific Lutheran Lutes, who walked out of Olson Auditorium on Tuesday night with a 96-79 non-conference men's basketball victory.
Elijah Fuller scored 13 points and Ryan Quigley added 12 points and eight rebounds to lead the Geoducks (2-3), who were an impressive 20-for-24 from the free throw line while also making 47 percent of their shots from the floor.
Pacific Lutheran (1-1) hoisted 40 three-point attempts and knocked down 18 of them for 45 percent accuracy. Leighton Kingma, who led all scorers with 27 points, was 6-for-12 from beyond the arc, as was Jacob Bingham, who added 18 for the winners.
Evergreen played well in the early going, building a five-point lead a little more than six minutes into the contest, but soon the Lutes started find the range from long distance. They hit 12 of their 18 three-pointers in the opening half in building a 46-37 lead at the break. The hosts led by as many as 24 points before settling for the 17-point victory.
The Geoducks enjoyed a 40-34 edge in rebounding with all 11 players on the roster getting at least one. Turnovers played a role in the outcome as PLU scored 25 points off of 20 giveaways by the visitors.
Evergreen is back in action again tomorrow when it faces the Central Washington Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. in Ellensburg.
