EOU Volleyball Season Ends vs. Dordt in Top-16 11/30/2018 12:57:03 PM SIOUX CITY, Iowa. – The 2018 Eastern Oregon volleyball season came to a close as the No. 11 Mountaineers fell in four sets to No. 5 Dordt College on Friday morning in the round of 16 at the NAIA Volleyball Championships at the Tyson Events Center. The Mountaineers end another strong campaign with a 25-9 record, which included the team’s fourth Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season title and the fifth-straight trip to nationals. The team also advanced past pool play rounds at the national tourney for a fourth year in a row. EOU faced a tough test on Friday, facing the No. 5 ranked Defenders who entered the match with a 30-2 record. The Mounties jumped ahead in the match, taking set one by a 25-23 score to go ahead 1-0. Dordt, however, answered back with the next three sets to claim the match (23-25, 25-15, 25-13, 25-19) and advance to the quarterfinals. The Blue and Gold hit .222 in the first set, but the hitting percentage decreases each set as the match went on. Both teams had 18 attack errors, but the Defenders held a large advantage in kills at 71-43. Dordt’s back row also held up strong, winning the digs battle 89-66 Junior Megan Bunn paced the offense with 12 kills, completing her 22nd double-double of the season. Fellow junior Hailee Ackerman posted eight kills, while freshmen Jet Taylor and Cambree Scott had seven and six kills, respectively. The Mounties led the match in blocks, 7-6, over Dordt. Taylor had a team-best three block assists while Scott finished with a solo block and two assisted blocks. Sophomore Kiley McMurtrey had 21 digs in the back row. Sophomore Madison Pilon finished with 22 assists to lead the Mounties. In her final collegiate game, senior Sarah Carpenter posted 17 assists with three digs. Fellow senior Holli Mullins had two kills, a block assist and was 10-for-10 in reception opportunities. Mullins will graduate as a part of the team’s four-year run to nationals that included three CCC Championships. Carpenter, a transfer, has helped lead EOU back to nationals the past two seasons.
