Kirkland, Wash. – Northwest University (15-13, 11-8 CCC) ended their regular season with a 3-1 win against Multnomah University (6-22, 3-16 CCC). This was a special night for Eagle seniors Sarah Warner and Audrey Saelens, who were celebrated for their career contributions.
The Eagles won the first two sets of the game (25-19, 25-21) before dropping the third one (26-24) after a series of good stretches by the Lions. The Eagles overcame this third set loss, however, roaring back to win the last set 25-13. They started this fourth and final set on a 5-0 run that then turned into a 12-4 run.
Both Eagle seniors had great games statistically. Warner and Saelens led the team in kills, with ten and nine, respectively. Saelens contributed massively to the Eagle defense as well, getting eight blocks in the game.
Northwest head coach Steve Bain remarked, “Multnomah played with great energy tonight and credit their seniors for playing as hard at the end of their careers as they did at the beginning. On our side of the net, we struggled with our offense in the third set but that had alot to do with MU's tough serving and stout defense. We challenged our ladies to bring more intentionality to our serve-receive in the 4th set and when they responded we were able to seize control of the set and close out the match. The best thing about the night though was the opportunity to send our two seniors, Sarah Warner and Audrey Saelens, out with a win. They have been outstanding teammates and leaders and we are grateful for all the contributions they have made to Eagle Volleyball.”
