Red Lion Players of the Week Announced

The following CCC student-athletes have been recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week for their performances during the period October 29-November 4.
 
 
Volleyball-Attacker

College of Idaho’s Ashley Pagan has been chosen as the Red Lion volleyball Attacker of the Week.
 
Pagan had a monster effort in the Yotes’ come-from-behind road win at No. 12-ranked Eastern Oregon. The junior from Colorado Springs, Colo. set a new career-high with her 28 kills in the five-set thriller, adding 24 digs in the triumph to mark her NAIA-leading fourth 20-20 match of the season. Not done there, Pagan surpassed the 1,000-career dig plateau against Walla Walla in the team’s following match.

Volleyball-Defender

Drew Dobney of College of Idaho has been named the Red Lion volleyball Defender of the Week.
 
For the second-consecutive week, Dobney earns CCC Defender of the Week honors after another tremendous pair of performances for the No. 16-ranked Yotes. Tallying 20 digs as College of Idaho claimed a nail-biting five-set triumph on the road against No. 12 Eastern Oregon, the CCC leader in digs per set added 12 more against Walla Walla to ensure a weekend sweep for the Yotes.

Volleyball-Setter

Marija Djonovic of College of Idaho has been named the Red Lion volleyball Setter of the Week.
 
The Yotes claim all three of this week’s volleyball Player of the Week awards, with Djonovic playing a key role in the team’s two victories, while also surpassing the 2,500 assist mark in what has been a terrific career for the senior out of Podorica, Montenegro. Dishing out a total of 74 assists over the weekend, including 55 in the team’s road upset of Eastern Oregon, she has served as an elite distributor all year for the No. 16-ranked Yotes.

Men’s Wrestling

Montana State-Northern’s Andrew Bartel has been named the Red Lion men’s Wrestler of the Week.
 
Bartel, a senior out of Mason, Iowa, had an strong showing for the No. 3-ranked Lights during the week. After dominating his opponent with a 13-0 decision at a dual against North Idaho College, Bartel took second at the NCAA D1 Cowboy Open Tournament two days later.

Men’s Golf

Oregon Tech’s Mayson Tibbs has been named the Red Lion men’s Golfer of the Week.
 
Tibbs, a sophomore out of Prineville, Ore., earned Medalist Honors at the Pacific Coast Highway Invite, leading the (RV) Owls to the tournament championship. His second-round total of 4-under 67 was the low round of the tournament, helping Oregon Tech upset No. 18-ranked Menlo on their home course.

Women’s Golf

Ashley Zhu of Oregon Tech has been named the Red Lion women’s Golfer of the Week.
 
Zhu won Medalist Honors for the No. 12-ranked Lady Owls at the Pacific Coast Highway Invite, with her latter round of 2-over 74 serving at the lowest round of the tournament. The freshman from Salem, Ore. was the top performer of Oregon Tech’s five top-10 finishers, paving the way for the Lady Owls to claim the tournament title by a dominant 50-stroke margin.

Men’s Basketball

Multnomah’s Justin Martin has been named the Red Lion men’s basketball Player of the Week.
 
Martin, a junior from Spokane, Wash., had an incredible week for Multnomah, helping lead the Lions to the program’s first-ever 3-0 start to a season. After dropping 17 points in the team’s blowout victory over West Coast Baptist, Martin had a career night with 44 points and five assists against Cal-Maritime. The guard was virtually unstoppable in the victory, going 13-of-21 from the field and a ridiculous 6-of-12 from beyond-the-arc.

Women’s Basketball

Morgan McKinney of Northwest Christian has been named the Red Lion women’s basketball Player of the Week.
 
McKinney, a sophomore hailing from Lake Oswego, Ore., averaged 16.5 points, nine rebounds, and three assists during the week, shooting 52.2% from the field and going 3-of-4 from downtown between the two games. Of particular note, McKinney went a perfect 6-of-6 from the field in the team’s dominating victory over Bethesda, scoring 18 points to lead NCU to its first victory of the year.

Women’s Cross Country

Oregon Tech’s Cindy Reed has been named the Red Lion women’s cross country Runner of the Week.
 
Coming off an All-CCC performance in last year’s CCC Championships, Reed was even better in this year’s meet, earning the individual title with her impressive time of 17:38 in the 5K. Not only did she top all other participants individually, but she spearheaded a prolific Oregon Tech squad that earned its second-straight CCC title for the first time in school history.

Men’s Cross Country

Marcos Cervantes of College of Idaho has been chosen as the Red Lion men’s cross country Runner of the Week.
 
Cervantes, who is not new to the CCC Runner of the Week award, came up clutch when the Yotes needed him most at the CCC Championships. The junior from Boise, Idaho claimed 1st individually at the championship meet, finishing the 8K with a time of 24:59, and leading No. 4-ranked College of Idaho to its first-ever team win, ending Southern Oregon’s 10-year reign as conference champions.
