Sherwood, Watson, and Miller Named Players of the Year, Men’s Soccer All-Conference Teams Announced

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) announced the 2018 Men’s Soccer All-Conference teams on Tuesday evening, showcasing the conference’s top performers during the fall campaign. Highlighting the list of award-winners were Rocky Mountain’s Nolan Sherwood (CCC Offensive Player of the Year), and Gregor Watson of Rocky Mountain and Michael Miller of Southern Oregon, who were named CCC Co-Defensive Players of the Year.
Sherwood was outstanding for the Battlin’ Bears throughout the 2018 season, leading the CCC in total points (30), points per game (1.88), goals (14), goals per game (0.88), and tied atop the leaderboard in game-winning goals (5). A recipient of CCC Player of the Week honors on multiple occasions, Sherwood was crucial in the prolific Rocky Mountain attack, establishing himself as one of the most dangerous offensive threats not just in the CCC, but in the NAIA.
Watson and Miller share CCC Defensive Player of the Year honors after each of their terrific seasons, respectively. Watson, a defender out of Duns, Scotland, was an integral piece in the Rocky Mountain (14-4, 10-3 CCC) back line that produced an impressive 0.61 goals-against-average in 2018, while also netting a trio of goals—two of which were game winners—on the year. Miller was equally discouraging to opposing offenses, serving as a key playmaker for the Raiders (14-2-2, 11-0-2 CCC), leading the squad to a miniscule 0.43 goals-against-average.
For the second-consecutive year, Evergreen lays claim to the CCC Newcomer of the Year, with Emilio Meraz-Rodriguez earning the honors after storming onto the CCC scene in 2018. Meraz-Rodriguez was a relentless source of offense for the Geoducks, firing off a CCC-best 67 shots, finishing in a tie for sixth in the conference in goals (8), finishing second behind Sherwood in points (27), and leading the CCC in assists (11).
In his first year at the helm for Southern Oregon, Davie Carmichael takes home CCC Coach of the Year plaudits, collecting the award after leading the Raiders to their second-consecutive CCC regular-season crown. The No. 14-ranked Raiders (14-2-2, 11-0-2 CCC) will enter the Conference Tournament as the No. 1 seed, which is set to take place Wednesday through Saturday (November 7-10) at the Willamalane Complex in Springfield, Ore.
