EOU Men’s Wrestling Earns 2 Dual Wins at Battle of the Rockies 11/30/2018 10:50:53 PM GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The Eastern Oregon men’s wrestling team won both duals on Friday at the Battle of the Rockies, defeating Dickinson State 25-24 (N.D.) and Northwest College (Wyom.) 36-15. Eastern Oregon 25, Dickinson State 24 The Mountaineers (4-4) started off the day with a big victory over Dickinson State, earning the win by virtue of a bonus point due to criteria. The dual ended 24-24, but EOU was given a final point by winning five out of the nine contested matches. The Mounties forfeited at 197 pounds for the lone non-contested bout. Senior Mhar Caballa continue his hot streak, winning by technical fall 19-4 to give EOU an early 5-0 lead. Junior Blake McNall wrestled No. 2-ranked Gresh Jones, giving him all he could handle in an 8-4 loss. Junior Tyler Miler and redshirt freshman Jared Brant followed up with wins at 141 and 149 pounds. Miler earned a pin in the second period while Brant won a narrow 11-9 decision. After two losses at 157 and 165 pounds, senior Drake Randall put a quick end to the loss streak, pinning Dickinson State’s Caden Haugen in less than two minutes to earn six points for EOU and give them a 20-12 advantage. Sophomore Marco Retano then won by a 10-2 major decision. The Mounties dropped the final two matches by forfeit and pin, tying the score at 24 apiece, but earned the final bonus point to claim the dual. Eastern Oregon 36, Northwest College 15 The Blue and Gold cruised to victory against Northwest, winning the first six matches, three by forfeit, two by pins and one decision. Caballa once again started the dual on the right foot, earning a pin and six points at 5:47 in the match. McNall bounced back with a 4-2 win by decision to make the score 9-0. After a forfeit, Brant picked up his second win of the day by fall. Eastern won the next two matches by forfeit to take a commanding 27-0 lead. Northwest earned wins at 174, 184 and 197 pounds before freshman Justin Wilson ended the day with a 10-3 victory at 285 pounds. The Mountaineers will roll into Saturday’s Battle of the Rockies Open, which will also take place in Great Falls, Mont.
