Multnomah Lights it Up in Victory over Evergreen
Justin Martin scored 36 points and visiting Multnomah knocked down 23 three-point shots to beat Evergreen, 100-86, in a Saturday evening Cascade Conference men's basketball game played inside Costantino Recreation Center.
Martin was 9-for-19 from beyond the three-point line and the Lions (7-3 overall, 1-1 CCC) were 23-for-61 from beyond the arc as a team.
The Geoducks (4-5, 0-2) put five players in double figures with Elijah Fuller scoring 19 points and Dalton Groenewold adding 18 points and 12 rebounds.
There were two ties and six lead changes through the opening nine minutes before an Andy Brown layin put the visitors on top at 19-18, and they maintained their advantage the rest of the way despite not finding their shooting touch through the early going. At one point the Lions were 7-for-26 from beyond the arc. They finished the opening half hitting their last seven attempts from long range in pulling away from the Geoducks and building a 55-34 advantage at the half.
Evergreen outscored Multnomah 52-45 in the second half but was unable to cut its deficit under double digits through the remainder of the game.
Joining Fuller and Groenewold in double-figure scoring for Evergreen were Malik Redmond with 13 and both Brandon Kohler and Ryan Quigley with 12. Raven Frazier led the team with five assists.
The Geoducks committed just six turnovers in the game but shot a cool 42 percent overall and 30 percent (6-for-20) from beyond the three-point line.
For Multnomah, which came into the game averaging more than 20 made three-pointers and 106 points per game, Zach Richardson tallied 17 points, Ben Grandle had 14 and Briggs Young contributed 13 points and 13 assists. Brett Blackstock, one of the team's leading scorers, managed just two points on 1-for-14 shooting but he led all players with 13 rebounds.
Evergreen returns to action next Friday when it plays the Saint Martin's Saints in a non-conference game in Lacey.
