ASHLAND – The 18th-ranked Southern Oregon women's basketball team pulled from all over the roster to piece together its most explosive offensive outing of the season, a 102-79 win against Northwest (Wash.) on Friday night at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
Senior forward Ariel Augustine scored 17 points to lead seven different Raiders in double figures, pouring in three 3-pointers with five rebounds. SOU (6-3 overall, 2-1 Cascade Conference) shot a season-best 44 percent from the field (38-of-86), ran up its highest point total in the last two seasons and broke the 70-point mark before committing its third turnover of the night.
Destinee Jones, another senior forward, filled up the box score with 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals. She and Augustine were joined by Sophia Altemus (12 points), Syd Fryer (11), Dominique Harding (11), Delaney Sparling (11) and Daranda Hinkey (10).
The Eagles dropped to 3-10 and 0-3 in the CCC despite senior post Miranda Langenhorst's 11-of-11, 24-point, 15-rebound and three-block performance.
They jumped out to a 16-7 lead five minutes into the game by making four of their first six 3-point attempts but went 6-of-24 downtown the rest of the way.
The Raiders finished with six turnovers, matching their lowest total in at least a decade, and at one point went 17 minutes without one. They forced 26 as Fryer spurred the defensive pressure with five steals and Harding and Hinkey had three each.
The result was transition offense, a category in which SOU posted a 32-5 advantage.
The Raiders led by three after a quarter, 51-39 at the break and by as many as 27 in the fourth.
Andie Kristinat chipped in 18 points for Northwest, which has dropped 14 straight games against SOU.
The Raiders will host Evergreen (Wash.) at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
