ASHLAND – Senior heavyweight Max Hane delivered again in the clutch for Southern Oregon, pinning San Francisco State's Antonio Gomez with 61 seconds left in the first round to give the Raiders a 25-24 victory Saturday at Riehm Arena.

The Gators, an NCAA Division II squad, held a 24-15 lead going into the 197-pound match. Tanner Fischer, the NAIA's fourth-ranked 197-pounder, set up Hane's heroics with a 9-0 major decision over Andrew Herrera.

Hane improved to 8-2 in his first season at 285, including 5-0 in dual matches. Four of those five wins have ended in falls.

The Raiders improved to 3-1 going into Tuesday's home matchup against Montana State-Northern. SF State went to 1-5.

SOU also got a boost from 125-pounder Pancho Barrera, a junior transfer from Southwestern Oregon Community College. Making his Raider debut, Barrera knocked off Brandon Vu – ranked ninth in his class at the NCAA Div. II level – with a 9-4 decision that he never trailed.

SOU senior Chandler Michael, ranked third at 149, wrestled up to 157 but protected his perfect record. He went to 11-0 with his seventh pin of the season, dismissing Romeo Medina-Ontiveros in 4:26.

There were eight total contests; both teams forfeited one weight. Isiah Alva (149) registered a pin for the Gators, while Kurtis Clem (174) scored a technical fall and 10th-ranked Jordan Gurrola (141) won by major decision.
