Mountaineers Drop Tough Battle 92-78 to No. 22 Oregon Tech 12/2/2018 12:26:28 AM LA GRANDE, Ore. – Oregon Tech made 28 free throws, upending the Eastern Oregon men’s basketball team 92-78 in the second Cascade Collegiate Conference game of the season on Saturday at Quinn Coliseum. Coming off a big win the night before against No. 13 Southern Oregon, EOU looked for its second top-25 win in a row. Despite keeping pace with the No. 22 Owls on the floor, OIT was aided by 36 free throw opportunities, compared to EOU’s 18. The Mountaineers (6-7, 1-1 CCC) got into foul trouble early in the second half, setting up OIT’s numerous opportunities from the charity stripe. The Owls made good on 28 free throws in wide disparity in the game. Oregon Tech was also strong on the glass, coming down with 35 rebounds and scoring 40 points in the paint in a well-shot game for both teams. OIT made 54.7 percent from the field while the Mounties were just under 50 percent at 27-for-56. Sophomore Jordan May led the team with 18 points, one of four Mounties in double figures, but was also limited by fouls. Junior Joel Anderson posted 15 points with six assists; sophomore Peter Hamilton had 12 points while junior Landon Jones tallied 11. Junior Jarek Schetzle led the team with five rebounds. All-American Mitchell Fink had 21 points to lead all players for OIT, making 9-of-9 attempts from the free-throw line. He also dished out eight assists and added four steals. Fink was supported well by a 20-point, nine-rebound game from Kaison Faust off the bench. Seth Erickson posted 19 points, followed by Garret Albrecht with 11 and Tyler Hieb with 10. The Mountaineers will next visit Whitman on Saturday for a non-conference matchup in Walla Walla, Washington. They return to CCC Play on Dec. 15 at Northwest Christian in Eugene.
