Beacons Pull Away from Geoducks in Final 20 Minutes
Visiting Northwest Christian outscored Evergreen 29-10 in the third quarter in running away to an 82-50 Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball victory on Saturday night inside Costantino Recreation Center.
The Beacons (6-9 overall, 3-3 CCC) shot 5-for-10 from three-point range in the third quarter to highlight the offensive explosion. Morgan McKinney had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds and Dani Baker scored all 15 of her points from beyond the three-point line, including four triples in the third quarter, to lead the visitors.
Angela Sikora scored 15 points, Imani Dunn added 12 and Merrily Jones registered 13 rebounds and two blocked shots to lead the Geoducks (0-10, 0-6).
Evergreen took its only lead on the first basket, a three-pointer by Sikora a little more than a minute into the game. Northwest Christian responded with an 8-0 run, the first six points by McKinney, and it never again trailed. The Geoducks pulled to within a point near the end of the first quarter and were five down partway through the second quarter, but the Beacons put the game away with their offensive surge after the halftime intermission.
Northwest Christian shot 44.4 percent from the field (32-for-72) and had a 50-40 edge in rebounding. The Geoducks, meanwhile, shot just 28.3 percent overall (17-for-60) and just 21.7 percent from beyond the three-point line (5-for-23).
Both teams are in action tomorrow night, the Geoducks hosting Corban and Northwest Christian playing Northwest University in Kirkland.
