Suffocating 2nd Half Defense Leads EOU over Pacific 61-45 12/29/2018 10:45:53 PM FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The No. 14 Eastern Oregon women's basketball team made it 11-straight wins to end 2018, defeating Pacific 61-45 on Saturday night on the road. The Mountaineers (11-2) used a dominant defensive second half in which they allowed just 16 points and limited the Boxers to 5-for-25 (20%) from the field. Pacific's last points came with 6:06 to play in the fourth quarter as the EOU defense shut them out over the final stretch of the game. Defensive rebounding played a key role as the Mounties finished with a 43-28 advantage on the boards while holding the Boxers to six offensive rebounds. Pacific also finished with just two-second chance points for the game. EOU finished with an efficient 43.4 percent shooting for the game while making seven three pointers and 80 percent on free throws. Senior Maren Herrud led the offense with 19 points, shooting 8-for-11 from the field and 3-for-5 on triples. Junior Jane Nelson shot 6-for-10 to add 14 points along with four rebounds. Senior Maya Ah You Dias posted her third double-double in four games with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Beverly Slater added nine points with five boards and junior Madison Crews had a game-high eight assists. Pacific started the game quickly, leading by as many as 12 points in the first quarter while taking a 21-11 lead after 10 minutes. From there it was all Mountaineers as they outscored Pacific 50-24 over the final three quarters. The Mountaineers are next at home in Cascade Collegiate Conference play after the New Year, hosting Evergreen on Jan. 4 and Northwest on Jan. 5.
