PORTLAND – Earning their second NAIA DII Top-25 win of the season, the Multnomah University men's basketball team stormed back in the second half to upset 13th-ranked Southern Oregon 96-83 on Jim Skagen Court.
 
Multnomah defeated Warner Pacific in the beginning of December when the Knights were ranked 17th. Tonight's win is the highest ranked opponent MU has defeated in program history.

GAME SUMMARY:
  • Multnomah had a strong start in the first half, building an 11-point lead, 31-20, after Ben Grandle hit his third three-pointer of the half.
  • Southern Oregon locked down defense after that, holding MU to a scoring drought as they scored 22 straight points before heading to halftime with a 51-38 advantage.
  • Down 55-44 in the second half, MU fought back to within three points as Grandle hit another three followed by five straight points form Justin Martin.
  • The Lions regained the lead 58-57 as Martin nailed his third straight bucket from downtown.
  • MU took the lead for good after Martin drained his fifth three-pointer of the half, giving the Lions a 76-74 lead with 6:46 to play.
  • Southern Oregon shot 39.5 percent on the night while MU managed a shooting percentage of 45.6 percent, including a 41.5 percent mark from three-point range.
KEY PERFORMERS:
  • Martin finished with a game high 40 points, marking the fifth time he has reached the 40-point mark this season.
  • Behind him, Grandle finished with 23 points while Brett Blackstock tallied 18 points. Grandle also finished with 14 rebounds for his second straight double-double and his sixth of the season.
  • For the Raiders, Tristen Holmes finished with 26 points and Jordan Hunt collected 12 rebounds and 22 points.
COMING UP NEXT:
The Lions will continue conference play on the road next weekend as they travel to Northwest Christian and Corban.
