Lions Upset 18-ranked Southern Oregon for First Top-25 Win

PORTLAND – In their biggest win in program history, the Multnomah University women's basketball team defeated their first NAIA DII Top-25 opponent, downing 18
th-ranked Southern Oregon 62-57 at home on Jim Skagen Court.

GAME SUMMARY:
- An early three-pointer by Sequoia Wheeler broke a 2-2 tie, giving the Lions a lead they would never relinquish for the remainder of the night.
- MU shot 38.5 percent in the opening quarter while holding SOU to a mark of 22.5 percent in the first half.
- Multnomah opened the second quarter on an 11-4 run while their defense held the highest scoring offense in the CCC to eight points before heading into the break with a 32-22 advantage.
- MU's lead reached as high as 13 points in the second half before the Raiders fought back to tie the game 45-45 to start the fourth quarter.
- The Lions kept the pressure up, scoring 10 straight points including two threes from Bethany George to bring the lead back to double-digits.
- Free throws down the stretch by Alaygza Portis and Wheeler sealed the win for MU.
KEY PERFORMERS:
- Wheeler led the Lions with a team-high 20 points while George finished with 17 points including five three-pointers.
- Also in double figures in scoring was Portis with 10 points while Paris Sanders collected seven boards on the night.
- For SOU, Ariel Augustine tallied 14 points and 11 rebounds.
