Mounties Defeat SWOCC at Clackamas Duals 12/8/2018 9:09:51 PM OREGON CITY, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon men’s wrestling team won its lone dual at the Clackamas Duals on Saturday, defeating Southwest Oregon Community College 26-18. The Mountaineers (6-4) won five of the first seven matches, including two by fall and one by forfeit to help earn enough of an advantage before the final three matches. At 125 pounds, senior Mhar Caballa had one of his toughest matches in recent weeks, but still pulled out a 6-5 victory over Joel Avila to give EOU a 3-0 lead. Junior Blake McNall followed with a 10-0 major decision over Christian Balagso at 133 pounds, increasing the Mounties lead to 7-0. The Blue and Gold dropped the next two matches, both by decision, to see their lead shrink to 7-6 through four matches. However, a forfeit win for Keegan Mulhill at 157 pounds put the Mounties back up by seven. Then at 165 and 174 pounds, seniors Jacob Dupuis and Drake Randall came away with back-to-back pins to extend the Mountaineers lead to 26-6. SWOCC did what it could over the final three matches, winning by two decisions and one fall to cut EOU’s lead to 26-18, but the Mounties held onto the victory. EOU was originally scheduled to face both Highline CC and Umpqua CC as part of the Clackamas Duals, but both teams cancelled their trips to the tourney. The Mountaineers next wrestle in Cascade Collegiate Conference action on Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. against Embry-Riddle in Prescott, Ariz. They will then take part in the CCC/GPAC Duals on Dec. 16 in Chandler, Ariz.
