Malcolm's Career High Lifts Knights Over EOU
PORTLAND, Ore –
Collin Malcolm scored a career high 34 points to lead Warner Pacific to a key win over Eastern Oregon tonight, 109-86.
The result moves WPU into sole possession of 2nd place the Cascade Conference standings with three games to play. A showdown with CCC leaders and #4 ranked College of Idaho will take place Saturday night at Bart Valentine Court.
After the early back and forth action to start the game, the host Knights began to impose their will toward the final minutes of the first half. Malcolm made a three pointer with 2:42 on the clock to give WPU a 52-35 lead. The visiting Mountaineers closed the period with baskets by Peter Eke and Max McCullough to close the gap to 13 points.
EOU looked to make it a game in the second half, and closed to within seven points in just two minutes of action and trailed by just nine (69-60) with 12:55 to play. The Knights proceeded to run off 11 straight points to take control, and then another burst took the advantage out to 29 points (94-65) with 6:28 to play.
Malcolm made 13 of 16 shot attempts to post his career best scoring effort, and grabbed nine rebounds.
Xavier Cannefax added 26 points, while
De'Jon Bowman contributed his 9th double-double of the season – 10 points and 11 rebounds.
McCullough led EOU with 30 points, and Austin Winegar added 13.
