JASON CORWIN NAMED HEAD VOLLEYBALL COACH AT NCU
EUGENE, Ore. – Northwest Christian University announces the hiring of
Jason Corwin as the new head coach for the Beacon volleyball program. Jason replaces Kelly Pitre who resigned at the end of the 2017 season due to a family move to the gulf coast.
Corwin has been involved with the program since the summer of 2016, as an assistant coach under Kelly Pitre and as a recruiting coordinator. The 2017 volleyball team had one of their most successful season in school history with a batch of newcomers who Corwin was responsible for bringing in. Eleven players from that squad, including the top four hitters, will return next season.
Athletic Director
Corey Anderson said, "I am very pleased to announced
Jason Corwin as the Head Coach for NCU Volleyball. Stemming from our experience together when Jason was an assistant in 2016 and then his signing of a very successful recruiting class in 2017, Jason has proven to have the experience, knowledge and enthusiasm to be the leader of NCU Volleyball."
Corwin will continue his career as a PE and health teacher at Lincoln Middle School in Cottage Grove. He will also continue to serve as the head coach of the 13-year old team with NPJ Salem. Corwin was the varsity girls volleyball coach at Cottage Grove HS in 2015 and 2016 and was named Sky-Em League Coach of the Year in 2016.
Corwin's experience at the collegiate level includes a five-year stint as the head coach at CCC rival Oregon Tech from 2010-2014. In that time he led the Owls to three Cascade Conference playoff appearances. In his final year he produced a 20-win season, their first since 2008.
"I am very grateful for the opportunity to lead the NCU volleyball program," said Corwin. "This team has an excellent group of athletes who represent NCU well. I am excited to be back coaching in the CCC. I'm familiar with the high level of competition and I am looking forward to building on the successes that Kelly established."
Prior to OIT, Corwin had extensive experience at both the club and high school level where his teams excelled. In both 2007 and 2008, Corwin co-coached the 18 Webfoot Gold Juniors club team, earning a third-place finish in the CEVA.
In both 2007 and 2009, Corwin led Thurston High School to Midwestern League championships while adding a second-place finish in 2008. He also led the Colts to three consecutive sixth-place finishes at the Oregon 5A state volleyball tournament and was named Midwestern League Coach of the Year after an undefeated run through league play in 2009.
"Jason's experience and success as a high school and collegiate head coach and his extensive involvement in the club volleyball scene are all areas that we feel to be beyond valuable in the continued growth of our program," said Anderson. "During her time as our head coach, Kelly Pitre did a fabulous job of laying down a very stable and strong foundation for Jason to continue to build upon."
