Eastern Oregon Women’s Basketball Named Team of the Week

LA GRANDE, Ore. –The Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team has been named the “Team of the Week” for Feb. 12-18, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced.
 
The No. 6 ranked  Mountaineers, playing at home in the final weekend before playoffs begin, defeated Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon to wrap up the 2017-18 women’s basketball regular season title. With the championship, their 10th overall, EOU also secured the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CCC Tournament, as well as the first of two league AQ’s to the NAIA National Tournament that will be held in Sioux City, Iowa in early March.
 
The two victories also ran their record to 20-0 in conference action. The undefeated season is only the third ever in the history of women’s basketball in the CCC. Former member Northwest Nazarene went 14-0 in the 1999-2000 while the 2012-13 Mountaineers captured the first of now two undefeated conference seasons with an 18-0 mark.
 
On Friday EOU was led by Mariah Swanson with a career-high 22 points with six rebounds in the 85-57 win. Stormee Van Belle scored 17 while May Ah You Dias added 13 points with six rebounds, five assists and five steals. Payton Parrish became the all-time three point leader with 301 career made baskets from behind the arc.
 
Against the No. 10 ranked Raiders of SOU Swanson continued her stellar play with 21 points and nine rebounds in the 82-68 win. Ah You-Dias added16 points, while Payton Parrish had 15 points and nine rebounds.
 
Eastern (27-2, 20-0 CCC) will host The Evergreen State College on Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the CCC Tournament presented by U.S. Bank. Evergreen enters the contest as the No. 8 seed.
