KIRKLAND, Wash. - A hot shooting Northwest University  hit 57% of their shots as they posted an 83-68 conference victory over Multnomah on their final regular season game and senior night for four NU seniors. With the victory, Northwest U earns the 8th and final spot in Cascade Conference post season play.
NU also limited Multnomah to 11 3-pointers on 40 attempts following a Friday night where they were 22 for 40 in their win over Evergreen.
Northwest U came out of the blocks fast taking a 26-9 lead eight minutes into the game. The Eagles were 8 for 17 from beyond the 3-point line in the first half while the Lions converted just 3 of 15 long range shots. Senior guard, Kaelan Hicks led the Eagles with 16 first half points on 6 for 7 shooting and going 4 for 5 from the 3-point line. NU would maintain their lead the entire half and Tre Benton's jumper with 16 seconds to go, would give the Eagles a 46-32 lead at the break.
Less than a minute into the second half, Multnomah would cut the Eagle lead to 12 after a Darius Redrick jumper, but that would be the closest the Lions would be able to get as Northwest U would build their lead up to 21 points, 69-48, with 9:22 left in the game. With the Lions trapping in an attempt to get back in the game, NU would break the pressure and Justice Martion's lay-up at the 6:08 mark would push the NU lead to 78-51 as Multnomah would continue to struggle from the outside. Three straight treys in the final 4:50 of the game by MU, would close the gap to 83-68, but neither team would score the final 2:44 as the Eagles would run out the clock for the win.
Kaelan Hicks led Northwest U (13-17, 7-13 CCC) with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Justice Martion scored 16 points and Christian Hakilimali scored eight and led the team with 12 rebounds. NU out rebounded Multnomah 46-24.
Multnomah (9-21, 5-15 CCC) was led by Darius Redrick with 20 points and 5 assists and teammate Brett Blackstock contributed 16 points for the Lions who shot 35% for the game, but were perfect from the free throw line going 11 for 11.
Said Jeff Drinkwine, Eagle head coach following the game, "Our seniors helped us go out in style tonight and proud of the way they competed. I'm proud of the way this team weathered through some tough times and set backs, but battled to make the post season tournament. We needed to stop a good three point shooting team in Multnomah tonight and we accomplished our mission."
