PORTLAND, Ore.   – The offensive fireworks continued, at least for seven innings as the NCU softball team split with Concordia University on Saturday winning 13-11 before falling 7-1 in the second game.

The Beacons had closed out their SoCal trip with a school-record 18 hits against William Jessup and they added 16 more on Saturday morning as they answered every Concordia comeback attempt with even more scoring.

Alyssa Gayle was the big bat once again, going 4-for-5 with three RBI. Jessica Garner added a 3-for-4 performance and had a pair of stolen bases while Kyla Wagner, went 2-for-4 with three runs.

Emmy Jegtvig (1-3) grabbed her first victory in a Beacon uniform, striking out four batters in 5.1 innings. Junior Madi Jones gave up just two hits over the final 1.2 innings and recorded her first career save.

The lumber finally cooled off in the second game as the Beacons were held to just one run on six hits in a 7-1 loss. Madi Novelli (pictured) had her second two-hit game of the day, bringing her team-leading batting average up to .625 on the young season. She also got the only RBI of the game for the visitors, bringing in Jessica Garner who reached on a single and stole another base in the fifth inning.

Sabrina Guerra took the loss for the Beacons but allowed just four earned runs and struck out five in a complete-game effort.

The Beacons (2-10) are scheduled to play two more in Portland on Sunday, taking on Lewis & Clark, weather permitting.
