MINOT, N.D. - A mercy rule win, over NCAA Division II Minnesota State University Moorhead on Day 1 of the Bubble Invite, started off the 2018 season on an exciting note for University of Providence softball. In the circle for the Lady Argos, senior pitcher Kristina George (SR/Salt Lake City, Utah) pitched a one-hitter with 9 strikeouts in 5 innings of work.

GAME 1: Providence 9, MSU Moorhead 1

First Inning
- Kristina George (SR/ Salt Lake City, Utah) gave the Lady Argos some momentum defensibly forcing a pop-up and two strikeouts.
- A double and a stolen base from Bailey Henderson (SO/Fernley, Nev.) started off UP's offense with a runner in dangerous scoring position.
- Briauna Carter's (JR/Sandy, Utah) first RBI of the season brought Henderson home to put UP on top with a 1-0 lead over the Dragons.
- Staying strong at the plate, Karsten Williams (JR/Kearns, Utah) and Hanna Tarum (SO/Great Falls, Mont.) hit RBI's for a 3-0 lead.

Second Inning
- George held the Dragons offensively only allowing one popup and adding another two strikeouts.
Third Inning
- Pinch running for Williams after a walk, George stole second base. Bringing Geroge in, Samantha Hernandez (FR/Los Angeles, Calif.) earned her first RBI of her college career to bring the Lady Argos up by 4.
- Not backing down offensively UP's Karlie Southworth (SO/Lewiston, Mont.) hits a homerun up center field, racking up two RBIs for a 6-0 lead.
Fourth Inning
- UP and MSU Moorhead held a defensive front in the fourth; both only allowing four batters up to bat and leaving one on base.
Fifth Inning
- Top of the fifth, MSU Moorhead tried to get some momentum going with a homer to left field however George answered with her ninth strikeout of the game.
- A single from Williams and Tarum got UP's offensive going again. Henderson singled up the middle but a throwing error advanced her to second and brought in Williams and Tarum for two unearned runs.
- The Dragons were not able to hold off the Lady Argo's offensive. A single up the middle from Gabrielle Canibeyaz (SR/Las Vegas, Nev.) brought in Henderson to end the game due to the mercy rule.
INSIDE THE BOX
- UP outhit the Dragons 11-1, both earning 1 home run.
- George had a career high of 9 strikeouts and only allowed 1 hit.
UP NEXT
- The Lady Argos head into Day 2 of the Bubble Invite tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 17 at 9 a.m. against University of Minnesota Crookston and at 1 p.m. against Minnesota State University Moorhead.
