Softball Falls in Day 1 of Cavalier Classic 2/24/2018 10:41:25 PM PORTLAND, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon softball team dropped the first two games at the Cavalier Classic, falling to Western Oregon 6-0 and Saint Martin’s 1-0 on Saturday. GAME 1 | Western Oregon 6, Eastern Oregon 0 The Mountaineers (2-4) fell behind early against Western Oregon as the Wolves opened up a 3-0 lead through two innings. The Blue and Gold finished with three hits in the game as WOU’s Lizzet Dominguez threw a shutout. Senior pitcher Hailey Kline also threw a complete game, allowing six runs over seven innings. She recorded six strikeouts as she fell to 1-1 on the season. GAME 2 | Saint Martin’s 1, Eastern Oregon 0 EOU threw the ball around early in the game, leading to an unearned run in the second inning. Senior third baseman Chelsea Spanier broke up SMU’s no-hit bid in the fourth inning with a single. Sophomore pitcher Ashton Kazmierski pitched a strong game, allowing just one unearned run in a complete game performance. Kazmierski allowed just three hits and used her infield well with 11 ground ball outs. Three errors by the Mountaineers ended up being the difference. Lauren Maley threw the shutout for the Saints, striking out five while allowing just two hits.
