LANCASTER, Calif. – The Corban University baseball team split with Antelope Valley on the opening day of a four-game series, dropping game one before bouncing back to win game two. Scoring one run against Antelope Valley's three in the first game, the Warriors stepped up to the plate of the nightcap and downed the Pioneers, 11-1.

"Today was a good time at the yard with the boys," said Corban head coach, Derek Legg. "Game one we couldn't quite calm the nerves down in order to play our baseball. Game two we were able to play a little more like the way we can. Pitchers dominated the strike zone today which was good to see. Can't wait to get out there tomorrow and enjoy more of the sun."

Scoring only one run in the first game, the Warriors fought hard from start to finish. Connor Mattison pitched a total of seven innings, allowing only two runs against him while Daniel Freiburger totaled two hits and one run.

The Warriors entered game two looking to bounce back. Waiting until the fourth to begin scoring, the Navy and Gold scored four runs to nab the 4-0 lead.  With two runs in the fifth followed by four more in the eighth and one in the ninth, the Warriors found themselves with their second 10-run triumph of the year.

At the dish, Josh Ebert finished game two with five RBI on three hits. Closely following Ebert, Andrew Axmaker finished with four hits, falling just short of the cycle, while Jarett Thoren tallied three hits. Along with his two RBI, Ben Ross hit a ball that still hasn't landed soaring far past the fence. The Warriors finished the game with 15 total hits and 11 RBI.

On the mound, Kris Jackson left no room for Antelope Valley. Pitching six total innings, Jackson dispersed only two hits and one run to amount to the Navy and Gold's 11-1 triumph. Austin Holmes came in following Jackson and allowed one hit and no runs to secure the victory.

Corban (3-3) will return to the field tomorrow as it takes on Antelope Valley for one more doubleheader, slated for a 10am first pitch.
