Hustlin’ Owls Take Three of Four from Red Hawks

REDDING, Calif. -  After taking the first two games of the series on Saturday and the first game on Sunday 5-3, the Owls of Oregon Tech (6-6) were looking for the series sweep going into the night-cap. The Owls however fell 6-4 to Simpson University (2-6) and settled for the split on Sunday and three of four games over the weekend.
 
In Game 1, Oregon Tech 5 Simpson 3
 
Tech scored one run in the 8th to break up a 3-3 tie and added an insurance run in the 9th to seal the 5-3 win.
 
Simpson took the early lead scoring 1-run in the bottom of the 1st on 3-hits.
 
Josh Kallstrom had an RBI two-out single scoring Blake Wrotenbery in the top of the 3rd to tie the game at one.
 
SU added a run in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 2-1 lead.
 
Tech took their first lead of the game with 2-runs in the 5th on 1-hit taking advantage of three Red Hawk errors to go up-3-2.
 
Simpson tied the game at 3-3 with a run in the bottom of the 5th on two-hits.
 
Tristan Shae doubled to start the 8th and later scored the go-ahead run on a Ryan Riepma RBI single as the Owls took a 4-3 lead.
 
The Owls added an insurance run in the top of the 9th going up 5-3 on 2-hits and a Simpson error, their 5th of the game.
 
Tech's Trask Telesmanich came in to pitch a perfect 9th to pick up the save as the Owls won 5-3.
 
John Schulz pitched the first 6-innings in picking up the win on the hill for the Owls, giving up 3-runs and 9-hits.
 
Shae and Riepma led the OIT offense with 4-hits each in the win.
 
Game two, Simpson 6 Oregon Tech 4
 
Simpson took control early scoring 3-runs in the 2nd inning and 3-runs in the 4th inning to take a 6-2 lead.
 
The Owls scored 2-runs in the top of the 3rd on a 2-RBI double by Josh Kallstrom and 2-runs in the top of the 6th highlighted by an Austin Zavala RBI double but fell in 7-innings 6-4.
 
Wrotenbery led the Owls with 2-hits.
 
Zach Scherman picked up the loss for the Owls giving up 6-runs and 8-hits over 4-innings.
 
The Owls will travel to Lancaster, California to play Antelope Valley next Saturday and Sunday.
