EOU Wins Game 1 by Walk-Off, Falls in Game 2 vs. Carroll 3/29/2018 5:00:00 PM LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon softball team extended its winning streak to 11 games with a 2-0 walk-off win in Game 1 of the series against Carroll College. The Mounties’ streak was then snapped in Game 2, as Carroll won 9-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play on Thursday afternoon. GAME 1 | Eastern Oregon 2, Carroll 0 The reigning CCC Player of the Week was back at it again as, with the score tied 0-0 in the bottom of the seventh, junior first baseman Shevan Defreitas crushed a two-run walk-off home run to center field as the Mounties won game one 2-0 and extended their winning streak to 11 games. Defreitas ended a fantastic pitchers dual between EOU starter senior Hailey Kline and the Saints’ Allison Williams. Both pitchers were working impressive shutouts into the seventh inning as Williams had allowed just one hit with six strikeouts before Defreitas’ home run. Kline won her ninth game of the year, her sixth straight. The senior struck out a season-high 10 batters and stifled Carroll hitters all game to just two hits and one walk. The game was also her fourth complete game shutout of the season. The walk-off home run was set up by a two-out walk by senior Chelsea Spanier. The walk was the first allowed by Williams in the game. GAME 2 | Carroll 9, Eastern Oregon 0 (5 Innings) The Saints answered in game 2 as they got their bats going early. Carroll opened the game with three runs in the first inning before tacking on four more in the fourth and two runs in the fifth to go ahead 9-0. The Saints tallied 15 total hits led by three apiece by Jaylin Kenney and Brooke Yarnell. The Mountaineers 11-game winning streak was snapped by Carroll as the offense was stymied by Saints’ pitcher Tess Eaton. The Mounties finished with two hits, one by Defreitas and one by senior second baseman/outfielder Maryssa Santi. The Blue and Gold will look to start a new winning streak on Friday as they host the final two games of the series against Carroll College. Friday’s doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at the Peggy Anderson Softball Field. For more information on Eastern Oregon men’s softball, follow @EOUAthletics or visit eousports.com.
