Eagles Shine in Arizona Sunshine
TUCSON, Ariz. – The sunshine in Arizona has been good for the Eagles. Northwest University got off to a great start winning their first two games in Tucson and within striking distance on their third game.
Game One: Northwest University 12, Presentation College 4
The Eagle's bats were alive scoring twelve runs in five innings. Hawley, held down the defensive side by only allowing one earned run and three unearned runs. The top of the lineup for the Eagles found a way to score big by bringing in four runs in the third inning and five runs in the fifth inning. Caron made a statement by hitting three for three with two doubles, and Loiler went two for three with a double and a triple.
Presentation College took advantage of the errors by the Eagles by scoring three unearned runs. Nelson was strong at bat with a double down the left field line in the fifth inning. Hawley of Northwest University did a good job at keeping the ball in the infield and holding the Saints to six hits.
Game Two: Northwest University 6, Aquinas College 4
All things happen in the fourth inning! Every single run of this game came in the fourth inning. The Eagles were able to put it all together for one inning to find victory. In the fourth inning, the Eagles had three singles, three walks, and one double to score all six of their runs. This inning was extremely vital to the game since Northwest University only had one hit outside of the fourth inning.
Aquinas also came to life in the fourth inning. Mairose and Bowen both had homeruns and the Saints were able to pick up four runs in the inning. Even though the Saints our hit the Eagles nine to five, it wasn't enough for them to take a victory.
Game Three: Northwest University 6, Concordia University (Neb.) 7
Eagles struggle to close out the night. Northwest University had a four to one lead going into the fifth inning and gave up six runs in the fifth and sixth inning to lose the game by one run. Godfrey had an outstanding game by being one homerun away from the cycle. She had a single in the third inning, double in the fourth inning, and a triple in the sixth inning. Homolka for Concordia (Neb.) made an impact with a double in the fifth inning and a homerun in the sixth inning.
