LA GRANDE, Ore. –The Oregon Tech softball team has been named the “Team of the Week” for April 9-15 the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced.

With just two weekends left in the Conference regular season, the Owls gathered three wins in their five contests during the week, including two wins over 7th-ranked Southern Oregon on the road in Ashland.

Tech’s first win came on a “get-away day” game last Monday. OIT picked up a crucial 2-1 Conference win in 11 innings over Carroll College in Missoula. The Owls perched on the back of Loryn Williams, who tossed 6 1/3 innings of one-hit relief over the Fighting Saints.

Oregon Tech’s second win came in Friday’s first game as the Owls had to hang on, fighting off a seventh inning challenge from the Raiders to claim a 4-3 victory.  Williams again picked up the win, this time in the form of a complete game start.  This time, the junior from Portland scattered eight hits and allowed just the three runs while striking out five.

The Owls, third win of the week came in Saturday’s game one, when… you guessed it, Loryn Williams picked up the win in a 3-2, 8-inning battle with Southern.  Williams capped the week off with a strong 7 1/3 inning performance allowing seven hits and two runs.  Tech’s Tara Moats had three hits and drove in both runs for the victors.

Oregon Tech (27-11, 15-6 CCC) has clinched a berth to the CCC Tournament and is currently one game behind Corban and Southern Oregon for the best record in the Cascade Conference.  The Owls will next host Providence (Mont.), April 20-21.
