Loghan Sprauer and Oregon Tech All-American
Seth Gretz, placed themselves in the thick of their respective title hunts Thursday on Day 1 of the Cascade Conference Multi-Event Championships at Raider Stadium.
Sprauer's 2,715 points put her in the lead through four of seven events in the women's heptathlon, and Gretz leads with 3,538 points.
Sprauer, a redshirt-sophomore competing in the meet for the first time, topped the 13-person field in three events – establishing a new personal best of 25.44 seconds in the 200-meter dash, and nearly matching her top marks in the 100-meter hurdles (15.68) and the high jump (5 feet 2 ¼ inches).
Corban's Linday Asplund sits in second place with 2,550 points. Oregon Tech's Amber Von Essen, the 2017 CCC runner-up, is third with 2,411. The long jump, javelin throw and 800 meters are left on the slate.
Oregon Tech All-American Seth Gretz, attempting to win his third straight decathlon title,is followed closely by Corban's Michael Schmidt with 3,483 and Southern's Joseph Dotson – Gretz's runner-up the last two years, and the 2017 national runner-up with 3,426 points.
Athletes return to the track at 10 a.m. Friday for the final disciplines.
