ASHLAND – Southern Oregon University redshirt-sophomore Loghan Sprauer finished off a wire-to-wire victory Friday in the Cascade Conference Multi-Event Championships, becoming SOU's first heptathlon champion since 2001 in a tight finish at Raider Stadium.

Sprauer had a 165-point lead over Corban's Lindsay Asplund through four of seven disciplines after Thursday's action, and it was down to three going into the final event, the 800 meters. Sprauer came in first in 2 minutes 24.62 seconds, edging out the runner-up Asplund by two seconds, and clinched the overall win with 4,391 points to Asplund's 4,362.

Sprauer's score is the third-best in the NAIA this season and gave her the No. 4 spot in the school-record book.

SOU's All-American decathlete, junior Joseph Dotson, finished fifth with 6,095 points and was doomed by a no-height in the pole vault that dropped him from second place to seventh with two events to go. His misfortune allowed Oregon Tech to comfortably win his third consecutive CCC title with 6,895 points.

Sprauer started the day with a personal best in the long jump of 16 feet 1 ½ inches. Her other PR during the meet was a 200 of 25.44 seconds.

Sprauer's win gave the SOU women 10 points for the CCC Championships, which will be held May 11-12 in Hermiston. Dotson scored four for the Raider men.

He was in good position before the bad break. He accumulated 3,426 points on Thursday for the highest first-day total in his career, and started Friday with a PR of 16.03 in the 110 hurdles and a throw of 132-9 in the discus.
