CCC CHAMPIONSHIPS: Oregon Tech Takes Team Title, Koza Beats Ferlan in Playoff

BEND, Ore. – Led by Stephanie Koza and Janelle Ferlan, who had to go to a playoff to determine medalist honors, the Oregon Institute of Technology ran away with the Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Golf Championships presented by U.S. Bank which finished Tuesday at the Pronghorn Resort’s Nicklaus Golf Course.
Koza (78-81=159) and Ferlan (80-79=159) decided top honors with a one-hole playoff on the No. 10 hole, Koza making a par-4 while Ferlan fell with a bogey-5. Natalie Mullins of the College of Idaho was third with an 80-86=166, Jocelyn Dacuag of Corban University was fourth at 89-83=172, and Kylie Collom of Oregon Tech was fifth with a 90-87=177.
Oregon Tech finished with a two-day score of 334-339=673 on the par-72, 5,814-yard course, 33 strokes ahead of Corban University’s 346-360=706. The College of Idaho was third at 372-368=740, Northwest Christian University was fourth with a 416-399=815, and Walla Walla University was fifth at 463-454=917. Tournament host Multnomah University and Warner Pacific University fielded incomplete teams and thus had no team scores.
The tournament victory also clinched the regular season title for OIT and secured their spot in the NAIA National Tournament as the CCC’s automatic bid.
Ferlan, despite dropping the playoff for medalist honors, received compensation by being named the 2017-18 CCC Player of the Year with a conference-leading 76.75 stroke average. The All-Conference Team included Ferlan, Mullins, Koza, Collom, and Corban’s Dacuag, Casey Jansen and Faith Newburn. Jeff Corkill of Oregon Tech was named the Women’s Coach of the Year.
