"Our team showed a lot of toughness today," said Corban head coach Abigail Farler. "They had each other's backs and played solid defense. We had a lot of players with some great hits today which gave us the opportunity to finish the game quickly. Sabrina had a good outing today and fought through the rain well."
Through the first couple of innings, Corban couldn't get anything going offensively against the Argos' Kristina George who was throwing well in the circle. In the third frame, however, the bats woke up and plated three runs for the Navy and Gold.
In the fourth, the Warriors added one more to take full control of the contest, and then in the fifth, Megan Rybar blasted a two-run home run and Melton ripped the game-ending RBI single up the middle en route to the dominating triumph.
Melton finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored, while Rybar finished 2-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored. In addition, Sam Woodley went 2-for-3 at the dish with an RBI and run scored, while Mahina Chong and Naomi Harris both recorded hits in the win.
Sabrina Boyd went the distance for the Warriors in the victory, allowing just no runs and two hits while striking out seven Argo batters.
Corban (21-8, 11-3 CCC) returns to the field tomorrow against Providence (5-16, 3-11) for a CCC doubleheader, closing out the series against the Argos. First pitch at Hillsboro Stadium is slated for 10 a.m.
