Southern Oregon Women’s Track and Field Named Team of the Week
LA GRANDE, Ore. –The Southern Oregon University women’s track and field team has been named the “Team of the Week” for April 2-8 the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced.
The Raiders, competing in the Chico State Distance Carnival and Twilight meet, posted a number of “A” and “B” qualifying marks, as well as etched new marks in the SOU record books.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Savannah Greenwade, Arianna Daniel, Margot Hamman and Lindsey Bonney won in 47.57 seconds – the second-fastest time ever for an SOU quartet, which cleared the NAIA Championships qualifying standard of 47.99. The mark also bested SOU's old season best of 48.32 and shot the Raiders to No. 9 on the national performance list.
Freshman Tara Crosswhite notched another new NAIA qualifying time, finishing as the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.47 to hit a provisional mark and top the Cascade Conference list. She was also part of SOU's 4x400 team – along with Daniel, Greenwade and Loghan Sprauer – that improved its NAIA 'B' time to 3:55.33, ranking No. 8 in the nation, in a winning effort. That time also took over No. 5 on SOU's all-time list.
The sprinters' big day extended to the 100-meter dash. Sprauer took fifth of 27 in the prelims in 12.33 seconds, the fifth-fastest 100 time in SOU history, while Hamman (12.46) was ninth, Brooke Carson (12.48) 10th and Bonney (12.59) 11th. Hamman just missed her PR of 12.46, and Carson's time put her at No. 9 in the school record book.
Carson shined in the 200, too, capturing third of 32 in 25.65, which ranks third in the CCC this season. And Daniel won the 400 in 57.43, making her No. 1 in that event and the 200 (25.59) among all conference runners this season.
SOU's performance in the field was highlighted by Lauren McGowne, the CCC long-jump leader. She placed fourth of 17 with a jump of 18 feet 1 ¾ inches, marking a new season best.
The team will return to California to compete in the UC Davis Woody Wilson Classic on April 14.
