College of Idaho Captures 6th-Straight CCC Women’s Championship 5/12/2018 10:22:35 PM HERMISTON, Ore. – For the sixth-straight year, the College of Idaho women’s track and field team won the 2018 Cascade Collegiate Conference Track and Field Championship, presented by U.S. Bank on Saturday at Hermiston High School. The Yotes used dominant performances in the distance and throwing events to earn 196.5 points, holding off second place Southern Oregon (171.5 points). Corban finished in third place with 132.5 points. C of I’s Hayley Morse and Corban’s Lindsey Asplund were selected co-CCC Women’s Field Athletes of the Meet. Morse had two individual victories, winning the shot put with a distance of 13.17 meters and the hammer throw with an ‘A’ mark of 51.09 meters. Morse also took second place in the discus throw, only behind teammate Claire Otero who hit an ‘A’ mark of 44.42 meters. Asplund was an all-around contributor for the Warriors, earning points in six different events. Asplund won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.42, took second in the heptathlon, third in the pole vault, fourth in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump and 400-meter dash. Southern Oregon’s Arianna Daniel was named the CCC Women’s Track Athlete of the Meet, winning the 100, 200 and 400-meter dashes. Daniel took first in the 100 in 12.17 seconds; hit an ‘A’ mark in the 200 in 24.51 seconds and another ‘A’ mark in the 400 meters in 55.90 seconds. Yote head coach Austin Basterechea was selected the CCC Women’s Coach of the Year for the second-straight season and seventh straight overall for C of I. The College of Idaho used its work in the throrwing events by Morse and Otero, while dominating the 10,000 meters on Friday with six of the top-seven finishers including winner Ashtyn Ellis. Along with Daniel, Southern Oregon got an individual win on Saturday from Jessa Perkinson in the 5,000 meters as the senior ran an ‘A’ standard mark of 17:28.14. The Raiders also won the 4x400 meter relay with an auto time of 3:53.06. Oregon Tech, who finished in fifth on the women’s side, had a couple individual victories on Saturday. Susie Garza hit an ‘A’ standard time of 2:14.08 to win the 800-meter run. Freshman Nishi Chase earned the title in the pole vault with a top height of 3.55 meters, defeating C of I’s Allison Cossins based on number of misses. Northwest Christian had two individual champions including Hannah Eddens, who won the triple jump with a distance of 10.94 meters. The NAIA’s top javelin thrower Bailey Dell broke the meet record with a throw of 49.63 meters to claim another title in the event. Nationally qualified individuals from the CCC will next prepare for the NAIA Track and Field Championships on May 24-26 in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
