Roelle and Gretz Tabbed Track/Field Athletes of the Year
LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University’s Rachel Roelle and Oregon Tech’s Seth Gretz have been named the 2018 Cascade Collegiate Conference Track/Field Athletes of the Year, the league office announced.
The annual award is voted on by the conference coaches.
Roelle, a senior from Anchorage, Alaska won the NAIA National Championship in the 3000m Steeplechase last week in Gulf Shores, Alabama earning All-American honors. Her time of 10.19:06 easily outpaced the rest of the field and is a new CCC all-time record in the event. At the CCC Championships Roelle did not run the steeplechase, her best event, in order to compete in multiple other events and enhance team scoring opportunities. She was successful as she earned key points and runner-up finishes in the 1500m (4.34.01) and 800m (2.16:19).
Gretz, a senior from Rouge River, Oregon won his third consecutive conference title in the Decathlon this season with 6,895 points. In addition, he went on to earn valuable points for the Owls in other events including; 2
nd pole vault, 3
rd 110 hurdles, 5
th long jump and 7
th high jump. At the NAIA National Championships Gretz added All-American honors to his outstanding season with a 5
th place finish in the Decathlon and a 6
th place finish in the pole vault.
Both Roelle and Gretz are also CCC and NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
