LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University’s Maya Ah You Dias has been selected to join the NAIA Association of Student Athletes (ASA) the conference office announced.
Ah You Dias, a member of the EOU women’s basketball team and the reigning Player of the Year, is also a member of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
"It is a huge honor to be selected to represent the athletes of the Cascade Conference at the national level,” stated Ah You Dias. “I hope to be a voice and catalyst to help student-athletes ideas, needs and wants reach national attention.”
As a member of the national ASA Ah You Dias will join other student athletes from around the country and serve as the voice of all NAIA student-athletes in the NAIA's governance. The ASA provides a platform for student-athletes to discuss issues of concern to them, offer feedback to NAIA membership, and propose legislation or policy changes, as appropriate. The ASA will serve as an advocacy group on behalf of NAIA student-athletes to enhance their collegiate athletics experience. Additionally, the ASA will offer its members the opportunity to develop their leadership skills as they represent and empower all NAIA student-athletes.
“Something I love about the NAIA is that they rely on the opinions and experiences of athletes to help shape the organization,” added Ay You Dias.”
In September of last year Ah You Dias was also announced as the recipient of the NAIA’s Dr. Leroy Walker Champions of Character award. The award, named after the former NAIA President and President Emeritus of the U.S. Olympic Committee, Dr. LeRoy Walker, recognizes a junior or senior student-athlete who has shown to utilize all five core values of the NAIA Champions of Character Program along with demonstrating outstanding achievement through academics, athletics and leadership throughout campus and in the community.
“I am very pleased that Maya will be representing the CCC at the national level,” stated CCC Commissioner Robert Cashell. “I have no doubt that she will bring the same grace, humility and thoughtful consideration of issues that she exemplifies as a member of our conference SAAC to the ASA.”
A psychology major, Ah You Dias excels academically. She carries a 3.69 GPA and has earned CCC Academic All-Conference and NAIA Scholar Athlete honors.
