Lewis Finalizes Corban Men’s Soccer Recruiting Class with 15 Newcomers

SALEM, Ore. – Corban University head men's soccer coach Aaron Lewis announced the 2018 Warrior men's soccer recruiting class on Wednesday, naming 15 new players that would be joining the squad. The team officially reports for preseason camp on Saturday.

Lewis, the first-ever NAIA player to be drafted in the MLS SuperDraft (in 1999), has been at the helm of the Corban (alma mater) coaching staff now for five years, guiding the Warriors to five-straight NAIA National Tournaments.

"We are thrilled with how the 2018 recruiting class came together," said Lewis. "I am confident that many of these players have the ability and experience to step in and fill important roles early in their careers. Their enthusiasm for our program and University mission will be enjoyable to see in action this fall."

Alan Cruz Ramirez – 5' 10" – D – North Salem HS – Ore.

A hometown product, Cruz comes to Corban with an impressive résumé. A freshman varsity standout at North Salem HS, he then competed in the elite Portland Timbers Academy during the next three high school years prior to his commitment to the Navy and Gold. Cruz is no stranger to the big stage, having previously played for the Portland Timbers U23s during the 2018 season and the Portland Timbers 2 team as an amateur in an exhibition. Those two teams compete in the Premier Development League (PDL) and United Soccer League (USL) as affiliates of Major League Soccer's (MLS) Portland Timbers.

Cruz plans to major in Health Science at Corban and hopes to work in Athletic Training.

Robin Terry – 5'10" – D – Fish Hoek HS – Cape Town, South Africa

Coming to Corban from across the world, Terry hails from Cape Town, South Africa. Following an impressive high school career, he hopes to make an impact for the Warrior back line.

Terry intends to major in Agricultural Business while attending Corban, with hopes to pursue a career in fish farming in the future.

Marcos Ochoa – 6'0" – GK – West Salem HS – Ore.

Another Salem native, Ochoa comes to Corban after attending West Salem HS, serving as the standout goalkeeper across town. While with the Titans, he garnered First-team All-League plaudits.

Ochoa is set to major in Business Administration at Corban.

Kohl Hurtado – 5'11" – M – Westview HS – Ore.

Hurtado comes to Corban following an exceptional four-year varsity career at Westview HS in Beaverton, Ore. During his time there, Hurtado was an integral part of the team's two Metro League championships, while also competing for the Portland Timbers Academy.

Hurtado plans to major in Physical Therapy while attending Corban.

Nate Sherwood – 5'5" – M – Whitney HS – Calif.

Hailing from Sacramento, Calif., Sherwood brings an impressive track record to the Navy and Gold. A talented attacker, he received First-Team All-League honors while serving as a two-time team captain for his high school program. In addition, Sherwood competed for the U.S. National Futsal team, competing this past summer in Colombia.

Jacobe Croff – 5'9" – M – Stayton HS – Ore. 

A midfielder from nearby Stayton, Croff enters Corban on the heels of a strong high school career. A two-sport athlete at Stayton HS, he competed as a member of the school's soccer and track & field teams. On the pitch, he tallied All-Conference Honorable Mention, First-Team All-Conference, and First-Team All-Mid-Valley accolades.

Croff intends to major in Intercultural Studies at Corban and become a missionary.

Camilo Avendano – 5'6" – M – Herkimer County CC – Cape Coral HS – Fla.

Hailing from Cape Coral, Fla., Avendano hopes to make an immediate impact in the Warrior midfield after competing for two years at Herkimer County CC in New York. After an exceptional high school career, during which he racked up three straight All-Area Men's Soccer Athlete of the Year nominations, Avendano notched All-Conference honors, a pair of conference championships, and a pair of trips to the national semifinals at the junior college level.

Avendano is set to major in Sports and Recreation Management at Corban and hopes to work as a sports agent/coach in the future.

Marco Reyes – 5'8" – D – South Albany HS – Ore.

A gifted defender, Reyes joins the Navy and Gold after serving as a standout athlete at nearby South Albany HS. During his four-year tenure, he notched Mid-Willamette Conference (MWC) Honorable Mention plaudits, three MWC First-Team All-League accolades, two consecutive Second-Team All-State awards, and a trio of Team MVP honors.

Reyes plans to major in Education while at Corban.

Quentin Petcu – 5'8" – M – Evergreen/Folsom HS – Calif.

Petcu hopes to strengthen the Warrior attack, bringing exceptional athleticism to the Navy and Gold. While in high school, he competed in three different sports, while notching All-League and All-City awards as a member of the soccer team. In addition, he served as a team captain for the squad that would go undefeated en route to a Section Championship.

Petcu intends to major in Business Administration at Corban.

Wyatt Marsh – 5'9" – M – South Albany HS – Oregon

Marsh, the second Corban recruit hailing from South Albany HS, aims to make an impact for the Warrior midfield. A three-sport athlete in high school, he competed on the school's lacrosse, tennis, and soccer teams. During his senior campaign on the pitch, he tallied an impressive 21 goals.

Marsh plans to major in Biology at Corban, while pursuing a career as a neurosurgeon.

Frank Marcial – 5'6" – M – Reynolds HS – Calif.

Originally from Los Angeles, Calif., Marcial comes to Corban after competing at Reynolds HS in Troutdale, Ore. During his time there, he collected a number of accolades, including Mt. Hood Conference Honorable Mention plaudits, Second-Team All-Mt. Hood Conference honors, and First-Team All-Mt. Hood Conference accolades. In addition, Marcial served as a team captain for two years, while being awarded the Reynolds Male Athlete of the Year following his senior campaign.

Hoping to become an athletic director, Marcial is set to major in Sports and Recreation Management at Corban.

Evan Hoover – 6'0" – D – Central HS – Ore.

Hoover is set to begin his Corban career after a successful stint as a member of the Central HS soccer team in nearby Independence, Ore, during which he earned First-Team All-League and Second-Team All-State accolades. In addition, he captained the squad en route to its first-ever Mid-Willamette League Championship.

Joel Tomlinson – 5'10" – D – Ponderosa HS – Calif.

Tomlinson brings a strong skill-set to the Warrior defense. A First-Team All-League honoree in high school, he led his league in assists as a defender, and served as a captain for the squad that claimed the 2017 League Championship. In addition, Tomlinson competed on a number of notable club teams, including the San Juan Soccer Club.

Tomlinson also possesses a passion for outreach, actively participating in his local community and church body. He plans to major in Agricultural Business at Corban while pursuing a career as an executive director of an agricultural-based non-profit organization.

Joshua Anderson – 5'8" – M/F – Life Christian Academy – Wash.

Hailing from Fircrest, Wash., Anderson hopes to make an impact for the Navy and Gold with his athleticism and versatility. A two-sport athlete in high school, he competed on the soccer and track & field teams at Life Christian Academy. In addition, he served as a member of the Washington Premier FC and Nortac Sparta Red club teams.

Anderson plans to major in Sports Medicine/Psychology.

Levan Zhividze – 5'8" – F – Evergreen HS – Wash.

The third Zhividze sibling to don the Navy and Gold, Levan Zhividze joins the Warriors looking to make an impact up top. A gifted athlete, Zhividze will join Corban's offensive attack after a decorated high school career, during which he received a number of All-League honors to go alongside First-Team All-State plaudits, 3A Player of the Year accolades, and Regional Player of the Year recognition.

Zhividze intends to major in Pre-Med at Corban, with hopes of becoming an MRI Technologist in the future.
