Southern Oregon University and Oregon Tech Earn Cross Country Poll Top Spots
LA GRANDE, Ore. – After a vote by Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) head coaches, Southern Oregon University has been selected as the favorite in the 2018 Men’s Cross-Country Preseason Coaches’ Poll while Oregon Tech earned the top spot in the 2018 women’s poll.
Southern Oregon finished with seven first place votes in the poll, totaling 77 points. The Raiders claimed the CCC 2017 cross country championship to earn their tenth title in a row and went on to place 4
th at the NAIA National Championships.
The College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon came in tied for second place with 69 points each while CI received two first place votes. Oregon Tech (53) was picked fourth and Northwest Christian University (43) was picked in the fifth spot.
Rounding out the men’s poll are Northwest University (37 points) in sixth, Corban University (30) in seventh, Warner Pacific University (14) in eighth and Multnomah University (13) in ninth.
Five CCC men’s teams were represented in the NAIA post season poll last year including SOU No. 4, EOU No. 7, CI No. 10, OIT No. 11 and NCU No. 18.
On the women’s side, Oregon Tech received six first-place votes to lead the poll with 77 points. The College of Idaho earned three first-place votes and is picked second overall with 75 points. Southern Oregon University claims the third spot with 63 points followed by Corban University in the fourth spot with 52 points.
Northwest Christian University and Northwest University are tied for the fifth spot with 38 points.
Remaining poll positions are Eastern Oregon University (35) in seventh, Warner Pacific University (15) in eighth and Multnomah University (12) in ninth.
Five CCC women’s teams dotted the NAIA post season poll last year with CI No. 6, OIT No. 10, SOU No. 15, CRB No. 16 and NU No. 25.
The 2018 CCC Cross Country Championships will be hosted by Northwest University in Issaquah, WA. at Lake Sammamish State Park and are slated for Nov. 3. Walla Walla University has added cross country to their CCC offerings but are not anticipated to participate in CCC post season until the 2019 season. As a result, the Wolves are not reflected in the poll.
