Conference Newcomer British Columbia Tabbed to Win Golf Titles
LA GRANDE, Ore. – It didn’t take long for British Columbia, new to the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) in golf, to earn the respect of the league. The coaches’ selected the Thunderbirds at the No. 1 spot for both men and women in the preseason coaches’ poll, released by the conference office.
UBC begins conference play this upcoming season after years as an independent. The golf programs join, softball, baseball and m/w track & field as NAIA and CCC offerings.
In the women’s poll UBC earned five first place votes and 33 points. Defending champion Oregon Tech is in the second spot with 31 points. The lady Owls also picked up one first-place vote while Corban claimed 25 points and the third place slot.
Finishing off the poll were College of Idaho (19) in fourth, Northwest Christian University (15) in fifth and Walla Walla University (6) in sixth. Multnomah University and Warner Pacific University discontinued their women’s golf programs after the 2017-18 season.
On the men’s side, UBC received all eight first-place votes. The Thunderbirds tallied 64 points in the poll while Corban (52) and Oregon Tech (50) came in at second and third respectively.
Northwest Christian and College of Idaho were tied at fourth with 35 points. Warner Pacific (20) in sixth, Walla Walla (19) in seventh and Multnomah (12) in eighth round out the poll.
The 2019 CCC Golf Championships are slated for April 22-23 hosted by Walla Walla in Bend, Ore. At the famed Pronghorn Resort and Jack Nicholas course.
