REDDING, Calif. – A two-hour delay due to air quality concerns did not slow down the College of Idaho, as the Lady Yotes recorded their most prolific scoring game in 25 years, blanking Simpson University, 11-0, at the SU Soccer Field.

The 11 goals scored by the club equaled the second-most in a game in program history – as the 1993 team scored 15 goals and 11 goals in consecutive wins over Corban. A record nine players scored at least one goal, while 12 players had either a goal or an assist.

The host Redhawks (0-1) – playing the first game since shutting down their program in 2017 after just two games – could not contain the C of I attack.  In the 10th-minute, Emma Powley made a great run down the right side, playing a cross to the top of the 18, where Jocelyn Cook-Cox blasted a left-footed shot over keeper Tyrah Bell for the early lead.  Off the restart, Payton Anderson intercepted an SU pass and played a thru-ball to Erika Thompson, hitting a composed low drive into the net.

C of I broke the game open midway through the half – as in the 23rd-minute, Cook-Cox blasted a long 40-yard bomb over Bell; Cameron Coyle played a cross to the head of Madison Glascock for a 31st-minute score; with Coyle scoring her third goal of 2018 late in the half, converting a long pass from Maddie Brown.

The Yotes added six second half goals over a 28-minute period – holding possession for the majority of the period. Brown finished a great combination from Makenna Aguilar and Emily Aspden early in the half for her first goal since 2016; Alexa Rierson headed home a Laura Starapoli corner kick to extend the lead to 7-0; with Starapoli burying a 25-yard free kick to close the 67th minute.

Upperclassmen closed out the scoring in the late going, as Jaelyn Yizar drove a ball through back-up keeper Alison Harvey; Megan Aumeier launched a 35-yard strike into the net; while Thompson scored her second goal of the match after winning a loose ball in the SU box and slotting home the counter.

C of I had a 19-1 edge in total shots – with 16 of their 19 strikes on frame.  Keepers Shae Waters and Kylee Atkins were untested, facing just one shot on the afternoon to complete the clean sheet.

The Lady Yotes will have next weekend off in preparation for two matches on Sept. 8-9 in Walla Walla against Whitworth and Whitman.
