NEWBERG, Ore. –  The Multnomah University men's soccer team stubbled against NCAA Division III opponent George Fox University on Friday, losing 4-1 on the road.
 
 
THE BASICS:

Records: GFU (1-0), MU (1-2)
Location: Newberg, Ore.
 
 
GAME SUMMARY:
  • It didn't take long for George Fox to score as they were awarded a penalty kick in the fifth minute of play. Originally saved by MU keeper Ivan Morales, GFU's Moises Manon rebounded the ball and scored to give his team an early 1-0 lead.
  • Nearly thirty minutes later, the Lions tied the game as Kelvin Perez scored his first goal of the season, hitting a shot from just inside the box.
  • The defense slipped up in a big way for MU, allowing back-to-back goals with just under five minutes to play in the first half.
  • The Lions tallied eight shots in the second half but couldn't find the back of the net as the Bruins took a 4-1 lead.
 
 
KEY PERFORMERS:
  • Noe Favila led the Lions with seven total shots, recording two on goal while Perez finished with the only other shot on goal. Victor Lujan also added two shots for MU.
  • In his first start between the posts, Morales faced 22 total shots while collected six saves on the day.
 
 
COMING UP NEXT:
The Lions continue non-conference play next week as they take on another NCAA DIII foe in Linfield College on Friday, Sept. 7.
