The No. 19-ranked Corban University volleyball team swept Multnomah (25-12, 25-16, 25-18) on Saturday evening.
SALEM, Ore. – The No. 19-ranked Corban University volleyball team continued to showcase its torrid offense on Saturday night, taking down Multnomah University in straight sets (25-12, 25-16, 25-18) to earn a valuable weekend sweep in 2018's first set of Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) match-ups.
"It's great to see the team constantly improving with each match," said head coach Kim McLain. "We need to keep striving for a higher level of consistency as we move through the conference."
Set one saw the Warriors display their versatile attack, with four different players recording at least three kills. Adriana Aguayo led the way with four kills in the set, while the Warriors also racked up four block assists.
Corban didn't let up in the second stanza, racing to a nine-point set win, swinging for a .308 attacking mark. Corban finished the set strong, highlighted by Demi Winters absolutely demolishing a kill into the ground, leaving no doubt the Warriors were in complete control of the match.
The Warriors rolled to the straight-set sweep in the third and final stanza, with Aguayo and Tori Edwards leading the charge after each finished with a game-best 11 kills. Both of the valuable Warrior weapons proved dangerous and efficient in the triumph, with Edwards finishing the night with a .500 hitting percentage, and Aguayo attacking at a .304 clip.
Jadyn Mullen served as the primary distributor for the varied Warrior attack—dishing out a game-high 24 assists in the triumph—while also tying Corban libero Kealani Ontai for the team lead in digs with seven.
For Multnomah, Sydney Amundsen and Maile Kam led the team with nine kills each, but the Warrior defense held the Lions to just a .075 attacking mark on the evening.
Corban (6-5, 2-0 CCC) returns to action next week when it travels north to take on Northwest University and The Evergreen State College on Friday and Saturday in Washington.
