Evergreen Takes No. 24 Northwest University in Four
KIRKLAND, Wash. – No. 24 Northwest University (4-6, 0-1 CCC) started their conference play with what felt like an extremely quick pace of play. After dropping the first game, Evergreen came back to close out the night, winning 3-1.
Tonight’s match was a battle between which setter could assist her teammate toward success. Sierra Wolff from Evergreen led her team with 44 assists. Courteney Carr of Northwest University inched ahead of her with 46 assists.
The first game was neck-and-neck until Keann White started to serve for Northwest University. Keann took the serve with the score 20-17. The Eagles went on a 5-0 run to win the game 25-17. The last game of the match was coming down to the end, with the score 22-23. After a timeout by the Geoducks’ Head Coach Angela Spoja, Evergreen finished strong to win 25-23.
Northwest University’s Head Coach Steven Bain commented, “Tonight's match was hard fought on both sides of the net, and Evergreen deserves credit for making plays when the match was on the line. Offensively, their ball control was very good, and we simply didn't do enough at the service line to keep them out of system, which put way too much pressure on our block and defense. On the plus side, we are seeing terrific physical and emotional energy from our young team, and the lessons learned from tonight's outcome will make us a better team the next time we take the court.”
