Weird Mascots Match Goes to Banana Slugs
OAKLAND, Calif. - Cayce Shaw scored all three goals to lead the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs past the Evergreen Geoducks in a women's soccer match played Friday afternoon at Mills College.
The contest, which featured two colleges with mascot names ranked on several college top five weird mascot lists, went to the NCAA Division III Banana Slugs, who owned an 18-3 advantage in shots.
Shaw scored twice within two minutes late in the first half (34th and 37th minutes) and added her third in the 59th minute to give Santa Cruz a victory in its first match of the season.
Evergreen (0-3) managed to put just one of its three shots on goal and continues to search for its first tally of the young season.
The Geoducks return to action here Sunday afternoon when they play Mills College at 2 p.m.
